birthday decorations

the apartment looked so festive for oscar's party! (actually, we still have everything up, so it still looks festive)

jeremy blew up a ton of green, red and yellow balloons and hung them everywhere (and some on the balcony, too). the leftover balloons were left on the floor for playing with. i made some green, red and yellow garlands to hang various places around the apartment.. i cut cheap poster board from dollar tree with scallop scissors and glued on printed pictures of all the foods the caterpillar ate. then i punched a hole in each food and taped them to some twine.

i used some more poster board to paint a big caterpillar for on the wall

and printed a birthday banner for the wall

jeremy made two fabulous balloon caterpillars.. i taped on the eyes, mouth and antenna. aren't they so cute?!

games and favors

we played a couple games at oscar's party. one was a caterpillar hunt. i printed a bunch of caterpillars and cut them out.. jeremy hid them around the apartment for kids to find. lane and aunt janie won that game. aaron found two and put them in the trash.

then we played a pin the caterpillar on the food game. i printed food from the book with different points on it. we each got two turns...

i won this one because i got my caterpillar on the nice green leaf, but oscar came in second place. we all had fun playing.. even the "grown ups"

i got these magnetic clips from the dollar tree and put oscar's picture in them for party favors.

for lane and aaron, we also had fruit shaped sidewalk chalk, butterfly nets, giant bubble wands, and fruit scented bubbles in fruit shaped bottles in a bucket.

oscar's birthday foods

on saturday, he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice-cream cone, one pickle, one slice of swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake, and one slice of watermelon.


i had most of the food items represented at the party.. was unable to get plums, so we had black seedless grapes and pretended they were mini plums.. they looked a lot like the picture anyway... i didnt make any cupcakes (i know.. i know.. missy? not make cupcakes? WHAT?) because we had enough cake for 3 or 4 or 5 times as many people were coming. for the nice green leaf we had a spinach salad - mmm.

i made mini cherry pies.. i suppose it would have been easier to make a regular pie, but these were so cute and fun

i had no idea where i was going to find the lollipops, but i stumbled upon them in some easter candy at the dollar store. i printed out some caterpillar and lollipop labels to glue on.

oscar's birthday cake

i finished oscar's birthday cake this evening.. i used two bundt cakes to make a caterpillar. then i decorated it like the very hungry caterpillar. it was fun painting on the cake.. i even used a big plastic tray as a palette to mix icing colors with. hershey kisses for the feet.

i usually wrap some cardboard in foil for a cake board, but i dont like the way it looks. i liked how danielle wrapped hers in wrapping paper for lane's birthday, but it showed some grease spots on it.. so i cut a piece off of a $1 plastic tablecloth and taped it on some cardboard for this one. it worked great.. it was really easy to wipe up any icing that was out of place.

happy 1st birthday abby!!!

the cutest niece ever is turning 1 whole year old today. as i said earlier, i did a bit of sewing for her birthday. the first outfit i did was exactly like the one that they showed on the pattern, because it was so darn cute and there was blue gingham on sale. how could i resist?

i had a harder time picking a fabric for the second one, but the butterfly camo won. jeremy really thought i should add ammo storage... i at least did orange rickrack in case she's hunting on public land.

oscar was nice enough to let me try the dress on him.. it's especially smashing over his batman pajamas. i think this is the sort of picture i'm supposed to save for future girlfriends...

i also made one of those fabric books that comes as a yard of fabric and you sew it together, but forgot to take a picture. we hope you have a fabulous birthday, abby!

missy's tattoo parlor

today i had to go to the health department to sign a new contract and get some stamped envelopes (and girl scout cookies! mm!) oscar and aaron came with me, since it wasn't a real meeting. afterwards we went to walmart and did some shopping.. i picked up a pack of 50+ temporary tattoos, because who doesnt love some temporary tattoos? when we got home i gave aaron a belly button tattoo and he loved it... so did oscar, so he wanted a belly button tattoo also. here they are showing off their tattoos.

painting

aaron left early today for a dr's appt, so while oscar was napping i got out some paint and started working on a caterpillar for his party. of course he wanted to paint when he woke up, he loves to paint...

he painted a picture and said that it's for abby, so i better send that to her...
